Airplane travel, at one point or another we’ve all had the pleasure of being constrained to a small seat, breathing in recycled air, and praying we don’t catch any viruses listening to some cough and sneeze in front of you. Being a skin therapist the first thing I notice after being in the air is how dehydrated my skin feels and looks, no matter how much water I drink. Here are a few products that I consider a necessity for airplane travel and post-airplane care for your skin. Toner, I love toner! I will spritz it on my face all throughout the day, in the plane, once I land, before I get on the plane. Whenever my skin is feeling dry a quick spritz helps me feel hydrated and awake. Skintelligence pH Normalizer contains three effective moisturizers to hydrate and soften skin and will not clog your pores. anti-bacterial**
What would a good toner be without a proper moisturizer. Skintelligence Moisturizing Enhancer is great not only for the skin on your face but also your body. Moisturize your hands, neck and décolleté (chest). It contains ginseng extract and aloe extract which help to soothe dry irritated skin, while carrying five times its weight in water to hydrate skin cells.
We can’t forget our lips, nothing worse then dry, cracked, chapped lips. Motives Vitamin E Lip Treatment is my favorite lip moisturizer on the planet, not only because it is super hydrating but it supports the healing process and protects the lips and delicate skin under the eyes. A 2-IN-1 PRODUCT! Who doesn’t love that.
If you’ve followed me for a while then you know this is my number one product. Another great 2-in-1 product, created as a makeup setting spray it sets makeup and creates glowing, dewy, youthful skin. I love to spray this on my skin before my makeup, it contains Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin all day long!
After the plane has landed and you have reached your destination, after maintenance is super important. When your skin is susceptible to dry air it can becomes textured and flaky, and the only way to combat the flakiness is to exfoliate. My two favorites include-
Lumière de Vie Volcanic Exfoliating Mask is formulated to detoxify, enhance skin’s glow, and dramatically improve tone and radiance. This intensive treatment helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as brighten and smooth skin’s texture. Antioxidants from green tea and bilberry help reduce the effects of environmental stress on the skin.
Fixx microdermabrasion is another powerful exfoliant. It is powerful but very gentle, exfoliating the skin without causing skin irritation that is common to other methods of exfoliation. Soothing natural extracts like aloe vera and chamomile moisturize skin, while buffing away dead skin and clogged pores.
Now what kind of Beauty with Lindsey blog post would this be without some internal necessities. You all know by now beauty comes from the inside out. Air travel increases your risk of radiation damage, and hormonal damage. Between the security checkpoint and being 30,000 ft up you are experiencing lots of free radical damage. Adding the stress of travel that your hormones release it causes imbalances that can result in redness, inflammation and acne.
